Little Red Riding Hood
Birthday Party

This was by far the most ambitious party I have ever thrown.  I am a photographer who dreamed of pictures of my Meg in a field of flowers with her red cape and then it spun out of control.

I knew what I wanted for an invitation and did not see it online, so I painted this one.  I used water color, ink, and colored pencil.  It is always nice to put your college degree to good use, right?

I thought it would be fun to have a sort of scavenger hunt through the "woods" on their way to Grandma's house.  So of course they needed somewhere to put the items they gathered.  I purchased the baskets at Hobby Lobby.  They were a yellow pine color.  So I washed them with an acrylic paint/ water mixture- like a stain.  The I added a napkin/ fabric cut with pinking shears. The tags and butterfly stickers are also from Hobby Lobby.

Once at Grandma's there would be a picnic...I did not feel like making 2 baskets per child, and wanted to make sure their items stayed in their own baskets without needing to be transferred.  So I used paper lunch sacks folded down and then pre-labeled them making it easy for moms and dads to keep track of who's was who's.  Each "basket" was lined with tissue paper and then filled with a sandwich, applesauce, goldfish crackers, and a juice box.

While on their journey they needed a red cape.  So my amazing mom sewed them all one.

Of course I could never leave the boys out and someone needed to protect them all from the Big Bad Wolf....so they had axes to carry.  They were thick foam cut and shaved to shape and then covered in felt.  I sewed around them.

We started the party with a reading of a kid friendly Little Red Riding Hood.

The journey to Grandmas was long and treacherous.  It was filled with obstacles and things to gather to bring to grandma.

The party was a blast!  We had so much fun.  The kids will hopefully never forget it and I may still be tired from it. hahahaha

A huge thank you to my bestie for capturing so many of our birthday moments for me- Kelly Seaman love you!
